“There are two types of education…One should teach us how to make a living, and the other how to live.”-John Adams
All Student Announcements (7-12):
All students participating in a CHS Activity, sports and non-sports, are eligible to be placed on the Down/Off List. If a student is failing a course at the end of the school day on Thursday, they will be placed on the Down list for the following week. If the student has not returned to good standing by the end of the school day Thursday during the Down week, they will be placed on the Off list for the following week. If a student is on the Off list, they cannot practice or compete through the Saturday of the Off week, regardless of whether or when they turn in missing work that would return them to good standing. Students who fail a trimester course will automatically be placed on the Off list for the first week of the next trimester.

The Engineering Machine Design Contest is back — with a new theme and a new twist!
What’s New:
*2x2 Contest: Grab a partner and compete as a team of two.
*Same theme as the 5x5 machines: make a team of 4-10 students and tackle it as a crew
*Smaller footprint: Less space. More creativity.
*Any number of steps: Build your machine your way — the strategy is up to you.
When:
Access: Move to Mrs. Gathje’s access in the Engineering room to work on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday mornings.
Need motivation?
*Win something — prizes, trophies, awards, or simply bragging rights.
*Beat the competition — Can you build a better machine than everyone else?
*Do it with a friend — the new 2x2 format is a major selling point.
*Solve a real challenge — it’s different from a normal school assignment because there isn’t one right answer.
*Build something that actually works — you get to design, build, test, fail, redesign, and finally make it work.
*Stand out for college — a competition gives you something concrete to talk about in applications, interviews, scholarships, and resumes.
*Recognition — photos, social media, school recognition, certificates, or having your name and photo permanently in the Chatfield High School trophy cases
*Have fun — hang out with friends every morning in access and take multiple field trips to compete
Teams are forming now- Please see Mrs. Gathje before September 30 if you are interested.
